John Denver became a star thanks to the folk songs that he wrote, many of which were located in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was raised in Roswell new Mexico, but discovered love for Colorado. The singer-songwriter eventually moved to Aspen. Denver's iconic anthems for Colorado have been a major influence on many to relocate to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated it was because John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. Denver is the Hall of Fame's first inductee, was honored with the award in the year 2011. To many, Denver is the image of Colorado. Through my travels I've had the pleasure of meeting people who are from New Zealand or the other side. When you tell people you're from Colorado the first words they say are"Oh John Denver. Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief stint in folk groups, was Denver's debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff composed the track along with Johnny Cash in mind but after Denver was introduced to an earlier version he knew right away the track could become a hit single. The song was recorded just several weeks after the Washington D.C. performance.
